Well now, here's a bit of a surprise! Doyen of the left, Hillary Clinton, she who would be President in 2008, has received the backing of Rupert Murdoch, he allegedly of the right! The FT reports that the Wicked Witch will have a political fundraiser supported by the News Corporation Mogul. It adds that Hillary has now conquered the New York media by winning support from the New York Times, New York Daily News owner Mort Zuckerman -- and now Murdoch and the New York Post.
This should be a warning shot to Republicans. We have an incumbent President in W. who has almost entirely lost direction, and we have an ill-disciplined GOP which seems to lack any real focus or conservative vision. This could not be better news for Ms Hillary - who seeks to return to the White House and wreak further endless damage to the United States. Have we forgotten the degeneracy of the Clinton years already? Has Murdoch? The News Corp chief has a reputation for aligning himself with political winners - and this is a disturbing development for those of us authentically on the right.
Whats all this "we" David,
Has Britain finally become the 51st state

Sox,
No- alas! Just me!!!

David, silly question but hypothetically speaking (hope I spelt that right). If britain were to become the 51st state do you think any of the politicians would make it the whole way to president

DV, I wouldn't assume that Murdoch will back Hillary. He will hedge his bets until it becomes clear who is likely to run for each party and more importantly who is likely to win. Then he will get the New York Post behind the expected winner.
On the other hand Fox News can be relied on to back the republicans come what may. One of its senior executives just joined the Bush team at teh White House. "Fair and balanced" or what?

Peter,
It's an outrage - just think, ONE of the numerous US Broacasters doesn't take an automatic Dem line!
Any idea when the New York Times - that flagship of the Press - last backed a GOP candidate for President???

Ive said this before and as i recall it was dismissed as nonsense! Sky News has secured two new anchors HERE recently including James Rubin, the former US State Department spokesman under President Bill Clinton, who anchors that international show 'World News Tonight' and gives us his international perspective. Rubin also appears as a regular guest on CNN, BBC and during the 2004 Presidential Election, he served as senior foreign policy adviser to Democrat candidate Senator John Kerry. Sky also poached 'BBC Breakfast' and 'BBC London News' host Gillian Joseph and one other BBC person whom i cant recall.

Yes Alison - Sky is rancidly pro-Dem anti-Bush. It's almost as bad as the BBC.

Murdoch knows to keep his friends close and his enemies even closer. He worked the nasties on Bill. It may suite short time aims to work together but there will be no love between the ruthless sucessful busineman and the twisted, shallow, power crazed, amoral harpy.

Hilary Clinton is a sharp card. She will make a brilliant president.

I commend "Hell to Pay" on the topic of Hillary "Sharp card" Clinton by the late and sadly missed Barbara Olson, who perished on 9/11. That sorts Ms Clinton out.

This just means Murdoch thinks Clinton will win. He's a good judge of these things.
By the way David are we going to have a thread for Europe day? Our Canadian friend was

Excellent post by Mark Steyn, very perceptive about the contradictions in the EU project.
Posted by: Peter | May 09, 2006 at 01:41 PM
I dont doubt that he really is the American answer to the rampant anti-Americanism thats out there ah-huh. Half of what he writes could be applied to the US. Its like the blind leading the blind.
Posted by: Alison | May 09, 2006 at 02:04 PM
Still. His attempts to draw attention to the perils of Europe dont seem to have worked if this post is anything to go by. When Hillarys the boss ive no doubt his focus will turn inwards. With the shit he writes Im starting to rue the day.

Alison, Steyn is Canadian.

Really? LOL! He's an arse is what he is.

Henry94 is right. Murdoch generally backs whoever he thinks is going to win, because it is in his interests to do so.

"Hilary Clinton is a sharp card. She will make a brilliant president."
Colm I know I usually disagree with you but up untill that statement I considered you to be inteligent

Troll
Well of course we will never know until and unless it happens . However, if she does perform well would you without bias admit it ?
Posted by: Colm | May 09, 2006 at 03:49 PM
You cant predict she'll make a great President though really. I mean she lied over Iraq. Until then I respected a woman running for President in the US. About bloody time. Shes smart but that was a mistake SURELY.
Posted by: Alison | May 09, 2006 at 03:53 PM
who hasnt lied about iraq. i think its mandatory now.
Posted by: daytripper | May 09, 2006 at 06:17 PM
i think flip flopped is the expression people use to describe her position on Iraq, not lies per se. The cover up-lies as i recall came after when she was busy dishing it on Busho
Posted by: Alison | May 09, 2006 at 06:43 PM
Alison
To be honest I am not really predicting that she WILL be a great president, but I do think she is capable enough of being competent tough and effective in the role. I don't really know all about her history on Iraq , but opportunism is the forte of all politicians in opposition . I just think Hilary is not bound by a simple ideology , and she will do easily do what is necessary in office rather than what may just be politically correct. She is ruthless and ambitious , not bad when you may be leading the world's most powerfull country.

Ps - I feel the same way about Condi Rice. I would be happy for either of them to become president.
