Speaking of Irish President Mary McAleese's cringing betrayal of free speech during her recent commercial gladhanding over in Jeddah..I thought this letter in the ST caught the mood rather well. Had a Unionist said this, I can imagine the response from certain quarters...BUT this is a view from a principled Irishman....
Sir,
Nobody need have been surprised at the Irish president’s denial and betrayal of the Danish people’s freedom.
Ireland gave the world political correctness in April 1945 when Eamon de Valera went to the German embassy to convey, on behalf of the Irish people, condolences for the death of Adolf Hitler. The women delegates at the Jeddah economic summit had to cover themselves up, use a separate door and were screened off. This is in keeping with Islam’s teachings on women.

Women, especially high-profile politicos, that kow-tow to this disgraceful anti-women oppression, should be forced to endure the same role once returned to the West.
