Can I just add my support to the call from the Police Federation that government should fund a thorough investigation into the brutal murders of more than 200 police officers during the Troubles. Iona Meyer, chairman of the RUC Widows Association, said she had just as much right to find out who had killed her husband. "I would like to know who murdered him - that's the big thing," she said. I would also suggest that Mrs Meyers has the right to JUSTICE and that means that whichever Republican scum murdered her husband should be brought to justice and made to PAY for their evil crime. It's not just the funding of this which is required, it's the political will to bring killers to justice.
This falls into the Shinner selective justice category of "Time to move on"

Mad,
Both sides got political prisoner status, one side the brave way by dying for it, literally.
It was a war.
Hello McFly ;)
Unionists and unionists just can't get this through their heads.
Time to move on?
Yes, for all.

This falls into my justice category - shameful it has not ALREADY been addressed! These RUC families need justice - their suffering has been great and only a rotten gutless Government would deny it them.

David
The best Justice would be a just solution to the conflict, so no-one will have died in vain.
Standards of Jurisprudence which would normally apply in society, ie prison for murderers cannot apply in norn iron due to the political nature of the conflict.
I know you CHOOSE to regard the IRA as terrorist scum, but that is very much a minority view. The British Gov't and the Irish Gov'ts disagree with you.
The best we can hope for is a Truth and Reconciliation type set-up.

Fr. Trinity,
Let's review......the IRA has murdered thousands of innocent citizens but it's NOT a terrorist organisation? It slaughters men, women and children but it's NOT a terrorist organisation? No - YOU hold a minority view of you believe that the IRA, UVF and UDA were and remain terrorist scum who should be brought to justice. The best we can hope for is the conviction of every murdering one of them.

Hear Hear David!

Political will? LOL! The terrorist amnesty bill tells you all you need to know.
In one way I agree that these murders should be solved if possible. In another way, I wonder what's the point? It's not like the killers will serve time or anything, so why spend the money?
Posted by: Peter | January 08, 2006 at 08:50 PM
ok let's review
OED "terrorism"
the unofficial use or unauthorized use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
In other words Freedom-Fighters, and not criminals, as the cause they were pursuing was unselfish ( ie not for personal gain ) and political, as in "Brits Out".
No more war, No more war.
Make love, not bombs :)
Posted by: Fr.Trinity | January 08, 2006 at 08:57 PM
Father Trinity is after all an IRA "volunteer." Ive always been a proponent of the republican view, but how one could describe those who use civilian truck bombs, Claudy, LeMon, KINGSMILLS etc. If the IRA were freedom fighters out and out they would have stuck to legitimate targets.
Posted by: Oxonian | January 08, 2006 at 09:06 PM
Sorry that should have read "describe... as freedom fighters"
Posted by: Oxonian | January 08, 2006 at 09:07 PM
Peter,
I couldn't care less what our rotten morally bankrupt government thinks, I know that right can only prevail if enough of us insist that justice will be done.
Fr Trinity,
IRA, UVF and UDA murderers were and are terrorists. Throw away your OED and review your conscience.

ie not for personal gain
wot? Like the IRA men at Adare ?
Like Jolly old Slab and his zillions ?
Yeah, right!
Posted by: Madradin Ruad | January 08, 2006 at 09:51 PM
On a quirky note MR when the sindo wrote an article about slabs millions he sent them his accounts from the last 5 years. He's on the ball
Posted by: Oxonian | January 08, 2006 at 10:46 PM
LOl oxonian - plenty of people have accountants that can make their accounts tell the most amazing stories :)
Posted by: Madradin Ruad | January 08, 2006 at 11:25 PM
Oxonian is right. Some of the things the IRA did were pure terrorist, whereas others were relatively normal guerrilla tactics.
What MR thinks is a clever reply to FrTr
("were not for personal gain"
wot? Like the IRA men at Adare ?)
is of course just silly.
One case (or 10) doesn’t stand for the whole as any fool (except one) would know.
He may as well reply to "The actions of US personnel in Iraq were not immoral" with
“wot? Like the soldiers in Abu Ghraib ?”
By the way, MR, and any other of the benighted that agree with his keen insight yesterday that >>the 6 county unit ...functioned better than the 26 county unit<< should read the excellent article by Alan Ruddock (certainly no enemy of Unionism) "Addicted to state subvention, North will suffer when it's gone" in today's Sunday Times.

I especially like the bit about our Govt being about to pull the plug, didn’t you?
Hasten the day!

MR, i believe his accountants are students of the C.J. Haughey school! Still I wouldnt trust
the sindo as far as i could throw it nor that posh Belvo educated fascist O'Reilly
Posted by: Oxonian | January 09, 2006 at 12:05 AM
Cunningham - as I keep reminding you there is more to judging the success of a country than the wealth held by the richer citizens of that country. And after all even if we follow your political prostitute approach - for you are indeed a vulgar and superficial fellow - for most of the 9 decades of partitition the 6 counties were better off than the 26.

It's called MURDER whatever side commits it. Round them up and HANG EM
PS its not a war, its terrorism if you don't have the BALLS to show who you are your just another piece of terrorist scum!

PS its not a war, its terrorism if you don't have the BALLS to show who you are your just another piece of terrorist scum!
So American fighter pilots and special forces are terrorists?
Guerilla warfare has a different outlook to conventional warefare.
Also Troll, did the pilots who dropped the Atomic bombs over Japan show their face?
Your argument is riddles with holes
