SO WHO'S OMAR AL SHAMSOON?

D'oh.

An Arabized "Simpsons" -- called "Al Shamshoon" -- made its debut in the Arab world earlier this month, in time for Ramadan, a time of high TV viewership. It uses the original "Simpsons" animation, but the voices are dubbed into Arabic and the scripts have been adapted to make the show more accessible, and acceptable, to Arab audiences.

I loved this hilarious comment from Ken at Oblogatory Anecdotes;

"I wonder if Badr (aka Bart)gets too cheeky if he doesn’t get forty lashes and sent out to sleep with the camels. Badr’s favorite catch phrase is “Don’t have a Jihad Man!” He attends the local school where they teach him he will get 72 virgins if he becomes a suicide bomber. Hey lets at least make it realistic."
