I listened to a debate on the BBC this morning in which it was being argued that a British police policy of stopping young Middle Eastern men acting in a suspicious manner was tantamont to state racism and that such a policy would only inflict more hurt on the already greatly suffering Muslim community.
The guardians of leftism believe that the Police should stop and search people entirely at random, thus a 75 year old White pensioner with a walking stick, or a 45 year old Asian with a briefcase has as much chance as being stopped as a 25 year old Middle Eastern man with a rucksack. Such idiocy should not be indulged and it looks like the Police have no intention of participating in such a charade, no matter what the BBC thinks.
As far as the "hurt" felt by the Muslim community is concerned, let me make this point. Perhaps it is the Muslim community itself which needs to take a long hard look at itself in the mirror and consider the massive hurt it has caused to the wider UK community which welcomed it to these shores. It is a sobering thought that whilst not all Muslims are terrorists in London, it seems that all terrorist are Muslims. It's high time that Muslims - including those "moderate Muslims" - came to terms with the fact that they have a primary duty of loyalty to this country, that they should be publicly expressing how utterly ashamed they are by those who murder in the name of Islam, and they should also be seeking to find ways to restore OUR confidence in them.
The inversion of reality to accomodate the politically correct victimhood embracing leftist agenda of the BBC needs corrected. We can't expect to see that happening on the MSM as it institutionally incapable of recognising that Islam is at war with us. At least here on the blogosphere we can deal with this problem by first stating it in unambiguous terms.
Excellent post DV. The problem with Islam in Britain is that it cuts itself off from mainstream society in lots of ways. Unlike, say hindus who have on the whole integrated into UK society, muslims have stayed separate and the most recent examples of this are the demands for faith schools and the right to wear the hijab at state schools. Both demands must be resisted in the interests of a cohesive society.

Peter,
Hindus are a great example of how people can integrate in the very best tradition of a melting pot. What really annoys me is that those such as Cherie Blair actually have fought for the right for Muslims to be separate and wear their hijab!!!!!!!!

They had the same problem in France but the French government stood firm and banned the hijab from schools. There is a test case in the UK about this at the moment.

Peter,
That's right. It's so depressing to figure that despite French rhetoric when it comes to raelity they have more balls than Blair ever will. They're trying to defend the French Republic, Blair is pretending to do something whilst in reality those such as HIS WIFE undermine the necessary integration of ethnic groups.

This is from the editorial in yesterday's Observer, a good example of how liberal opinion has moved against Cherie Blair and her ilk:
"This question of what is and what isn't British is crucial. Britain has tilted far too far towards multi-culturalism. We should encourage people to bring their skills, energy, culture and breadth to our country but those we welcome should not be allowed to live in cultural ghettoes. We should not aim to be an umbrella nation sheltering a range of separate ethnic and religious groups but a single nation with far more of a single identity. Core British values should be part of everybody's lives. There should be compulsory English lessons for new arrivals and a comprehensive programme of tuition, backed by significant incentives, for the thousands immigrants, some living in the UK for decades, who speak only Urdu or Arabic. And immigrants need to recognise that rights bring responsibilities. No one has a right to wear a veil in a playground. Faith schools run counter to the building of an inclusive British identity."

David

Colm,
True, but I'm broad-minded enough to recognise sense from wherever it comes!!!

That would even have to be (regretfully) in the case of the french. They have banned the wearing of the Burka in public "any article that hides the face" and have made it subject to a fine that would equal $3000 I think thats what 1500pounds.
