Madradin Ruad

Complex issues David. Personally I don't see any difference between what the IRA tried to do on the Shankill and what Israel did whenit Killed 15, including 9 children, in order to kill one Hamas leader. That said, I don't think Kelly should be free and I don't see any legal reason for Hain to have backed down.

Chris Gaskin

He should never have been re-arrested in the first place David.

It was a sop to rejectionist Unionism.

Hain should go

Madradin Ruad

was he re-arrested ? was his parole not in fact revoked ? If he was re-arrested, what charges did he face ?

iluvni

Have any other despicable sectarian killers been released prior to their sentence being reviewed by the Sentences Review Board or whatever it's called.
Are they breaking their own rules here?

Madradin Ruad

we looked at the "rules" on Balrog iluvni - they are laughably vague. All that they showed was that Hain is entitled to withdraw the parole , no "evidence" is needed and the already convicted criminal is entitled to ask for his case to be reconsidered.

David Vance

I believe that mass murderers should be executed, that way gutless politicians and the morally bankrupt would not get to cheer as their poster boys walk free from justice - drenched in the blood of INNOCENTS.

Madradin Ruad

That in itself can cause problems David - How different Ireland would be if those leaders hadn't been executed in 1916.

Chris Gaskin

You could be even more pissed off in the next few days David when the pressure is back on Unionism to deliver.

Richard

"I believe that mass murderers should be executed,"

DV should be honest then and say your hero Dresden Winnie should have been tried at Nuremburg. Not just for Dresden but for his use of poison gas in Iraq that set the precedent for Saddam.

that way gutless politicians and the morally bankrupt would not get to cheer as their poster boys walk free from justice - drenched in the blood of INNOCENTS.

DV throws around terms like gutless politicians and morally bankrupt. It would be very interesting to know what great brave thing he has ever done in his life. He is just a big talker (er, blogger).

Monica-Philadelphia

And you, Richard?

Please regale us with all of the brave things you've done in life. Don't try to railroad me with that commando bullshit either.

Spout chickenhawk meme? Doesn't count. Spout lies about my hero Winston? Doesn't count. Sit in chair and type meaningless tripe? Doesn't count.

BTW - my neighbor wants you to send us 27 grams of whatever it is you've been smoking. NOT 28 grams - only 27.

levee

Commenters seem prone to moral outrage at this man's rearrest.

Could everyone please remember that this man is a murderer? He did not complete his sentence because a reprieve came in the form of the Good Friday Agreement.

He is not rehabilitated, just lucky. This applies equally to loyalist/nationalist prisoners.

David Vance

He was lucky, the people he murdered weren't so lucky.

Madradin Ruad

He was as bad as an Israeli. That's bad.
He was prepared to slaughter any number of innocents to kill Adair, Just as the Israelis slaughtered innocents to kill Shahada.

But which is the most cowardly? The rat who plants a bomb and sneaks off - as Kelly intended, the rats who use proxy bombers (IRA), the General who sends a pilot to drop a one ton bomb on an apartment block, or the man who straps a bomb to himself and walks upto his targets? Suicide bombers are WRONG. They damn themselves. But they aren't cowards in the way Kelly or the Israelis were.

Richard

"Please regale us with all of the brave things you've done in life. Don't try to railroad me with that commando bullshit either."

I never made that claim. Mr. Vance goes on and on with his moral outrage. He is always whinging because his government won't do something. As if he would have the courage to do something.

"Spout lies about my hero Winston? Doesn't count. Sit in chair and type meaningless tripe? Doesn't count."

From the Spectator 24 April 2004:

"Citing Churchill to support Bush’s war to rid Iraq of alleged weapons of mass destruction was particularly ironic in light of Churchill’s own record with respect to WMDs in Iraq. As colonial secretary in 1919, Churchill wanted to use gas against the ‘unco-operative Arabs’ in Iraq. He explained, in terms that Saddam might have used to justify his gassing of Iraqi Kurds, ‘I do not understand the squeamishness about the use of gas. I am strongly in favour of using poison gas against uncivilised tribes.’ "

A truly moral man.

And what is the lassie from Philly smoking? Put down the bong, Monica.
