BUSH SEPARATES FROM HIS BASE...

I do like Peggy Noonan, I think she is a very thoughtful conservative writer. So when she excoriates President Bush for his treatment of those many Republicans who are genuinely concerned about his Immigration plans, I think she's well worth a listen... don't you?

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad. But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The RNC is losing money. Recently the RNC called to ask for money - we have contributed in the past. Troll went OFF on the poor guy and just told him to take him off the list. We are feeling real nasty about this immigration thing that Bush is doing. He's wrong and making comments to alienate the Republican base isn't the smart thing to do. The Republicans lost ground in the last election and as we tried to tell y'all - it was the immigration thing that was the bulk of it. A few readers here had it ALL figured out, Iraq war - mandate - Bullsh*t! It was immigration. And spending.

I note that the four main candidates to be the GOP's contender in the 2008 election all favour open-door migration from Mexico. It's not long now until New Mexico, California, Texas and Arizona all have absolute hispanic majorities. And if they wish to implement reconquista through the ballot box?

May I introduce you to Ron Paul, sadly not running over here but, I like what he's selling.

Tom Chittum told you it was coming. They're up to their eyeballs in the trough and they aren't bothering to pretend any more.

Its interesting the huge shift in Republicians away from GWB and his administration. He has not been a good president even if you narrow consider his term in relation to long-standing dearly-cherished Republician beliefs, eg financial conservatism, small government, etc.

Albeit for different reasons, the Democrats have been saying he wasn't a good president for quite a while now and it looks like they have been right.
