So you are a American Lawyer acting for a convicted terrorist, and you smuggle messages out of his jail, and pass then on to his followers, in the full knowledge that this is both against the law, and will bring aid and comfort to his fellow islamic terror providers! Your actions are discovered, and you yourself are tried on charges of giving material support to Terrorism!
When the 'Guilty' verdict is read out, radical lawyer LynneStewart, 65, turned pale, slumps back into her chair and began to cry!
She pleaded for forgiveness. "Permit me to live in the world." the former firebrand begged the judge, "Permit me to live out the rest of my life productively, lovingly, righteously."
The sob stories work, and a clearly admiring Judge John Koeltl sentenced her to just two years and four months in prison.
But a half-hour later, she bounces out of court, stating "I can do that standing on my head!" and "I would do it again -- it's the way a lawyer is supposed to behave,"

under the new detainee bill she could be detained indefinitely, tortured and executed.
while it is impossible to justify her actions, which were patently wrong. it is equally impossible to justify the actions open to the US government when dealing with these situations.
by the way, commenting on blogs such as this is at risk of falling under the same legislation. so all you hawks out there may yet get your wish, having all us "terrorist appeasers" locked up for expressing our opinions.
welcome to the new world.

That's really shocking and unbelievable, so much for showing mercy on an undeserving case. A good story to highlight.

Daytripper
You said "under the new detainee bill she could be detained indefinitely, tortured and executed."
Is that really true!? They can execute you? The indefinite detention and torture doesn't surprise me at all but summary execution!!

yes they can. search for HR6166. theres very little they havent provided death penalty for.

It's true SBK. They're opening the gulags as we speak. There are groups of Americans being rounded up and loaded onto the cattle cars right down at the end of my street.
This woman is a disgrace. It was a Clinton appointed judge, by the way.

daytripper: "having all us "terrorist appeasers" locked up for expressing our opinions."
Are you really afraid of having your opinion stifled? For goodness sake, check into reality.
Rants on the internet don't even raise eyebrows...take a walk...breathe.

--It was a Clinton appointed judge, by the way.--
Most interesting indeed. I've taken Clinton's side at times recently re terror-related issues, but this will give me something new to think about.
The judge was clearly star-struck, filled with admiration for a most despicable convict.

Daytripper has clearly left his tin-foil hat in the park where he spent the night.

"I would do it again -- it's the way a lawyer is supposed to behave,"
It's not the way a human being is supposed to behave and despite claims to the contrary, that is what lawyers are.

Daytripper has clearly left his tin-foil hat in the park where he spent the night.
read the act, you decide. this is no theory. this is fact.
while this may not affect us now, in the present. its future generations i worry about. democracy in the west is terminally ill.

This witch deserved a far greater sentence and a far greater rebuke from the judge.

I'll have to look this HR6166 up. And the rest of you, for shame on your ad hominem attacks before you've even read this HR6166 thing. Daytripper, I'll reserve my judgement until I've read about it. But I'll say this summary executions by us would make us no better than the islamist beheaders of the world.

just to clarify, do you mean ad hominem attacks against daytripper or against the lawyer?

Section 950v Subsection 26
'(26) WRONGFULLY AIDING THE ENEMY.—Any
person subject to this chapter who, in breach of an
allegiance or duty to the United States, knowingly
and intentionally aids an enemy of the United
States, or one of the co-belligerents of the enemy,
shall be punished as a military commission under
this chapter may direct.'
the only people who can breach an allegiance to the US are its citizens. nobody else. but dont worry, it brings you into line with your closest ally, which is also a monarcy. ;)
