I couldn't find a petition ot sign form that link.

It is dreadful that this is happening in this day and age.

I hope that this young woman can be saved, but then again saved for what?

There are mysoginistic auld gits in the Christian churches and I would even go as far as to say that one or two of them would be into this sort of thing given half a chance but the idea that in any country this is an established occurance is frightening.

I am opposed to the death penalty but at least in relation to rape it is nomally in the context of punishing the rapist not the punishment for being raped.

Sorry about the link - here is the petition.

signed it!

There are so many I'm sure in a similar situation. So depressing.

Aileen,

What the hell? Here we have something on Iran's demonic practices, which are known to be a matter of fact, and you can't let it go without an unsubstantiated claim that today's Church would want that if it could get away with it. Just what kind of devil are you, anyway?

'Saved for what?' For whatever kind of adventure ongoing life brings to her! Or perhaps you think that the instant she is pardoned, Il Papa and a cohort of cardinals are going to swoop in to Iran, kidnap the girl, and turn her over to some secret sect deep in the basements of the vatican?

It is an unsubstantiated claim that you make that I said the todays church would want that if it could get a way with it. The church is indeed in great trouble of "one or two" represesnts a majority.

"'Saved for what?' For whatever kind of adventure ongoing life brings to her! Or perhaps you think that the instant she is pardoned, Il Papa and a cohort of cardinals are going to swoop in to Iran, kidnap the girl, and turn her over to some secret sect deep in the basements of the vatican?"

Mr Smith you are a prize idiot with an over active imagination. If such are your fantacies you needn't off load them on to me. By saved for what I was wondering what awaits her, particularly if she has to stay in a country where the punishment for being raped is hanging.

alison

Elsewhere in Islam:
“Ghazala Shaheen has no chance of getting justice. The evidence has been destroyed. Doctors confirm she has been raped but she can’t prove that she has been raped by the suspects,” he said. There are hundreds of similar cases in southern Punjab every year, he added.

According to her relatives, she had been selected as a kidnap target to maximise her family’s humiliation. She had been been the first in her family to gain a degree. This earned her a job as a local schoolteacher, but the offer was withdrawn after officials said they did not want to be associated with someone who had been raped.

Shaheen said she was determined to bring her kidnappers and rapists to justice. “My mission is to get all of them arrested and hanged, so they cannot do this to any other woman,” she said.

The prospects of a successful prosecution appear slim...without the four essential (Male) witnesses a rape conviction is unlikely.

It makes me wonder to what extent the feminist movement/lobby of the 80's/90's was really a non-politically-aligned vehicle for achieving genuine social & economic gender equality, after all. Nope, it always had the hallmarks of SWP/CND etc written all over it. Now that they've got their precious Labour gov't in power, they couldn't give a hoot about the likes of poor Nazanin. In fact they're probably the very people accusing those who wish to help her of "Islamophobia".

Tom Tyler

It's the same sort of thing (in a way) as the prize loons who took out a full-page ad in the Observer yesterday, calling for "No replacement for Trident!" Bet they're not that fussed about Iran getting the bomb, though.
"Feminists"/"Peace campaigners" my posterior. Politically motivated, Communist-funded agitators, more like.

Tom,

CND, Iran and the Bomb? FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Yeah but to say she can't be executed for this is restricting the rights of Muslims to perform their religious duties. I am for giving them the right to choose. Who am I to enforce my Western point of view?

/Colm/Cunningham/Frank off

Colm

Totally agree with you JONZ - of course I agree that she should be executed if that is the custom and practise within the Muslim community she is part of.

alison

Well Colm we've (the west and in particular the left) had our noses in the air about these issues for some time and when someone like Bunting uses her illsutrious post feminism position to wax lyrical about the lack of progress in the catholic church you have to wonder if she isnt too frightened of upsetting sensibilities to criticize Islams appauling shari'a practises. It does make you wonder.

Can you both sign the petition please. Thanks

Colm

Alison

I have signed the petition which may come as a surprise to jOnz who seems to think that just because I disagree with his (hers ?) views on the banning of the Burqa must mean I am in favour of whatever barbarism is practised in the name of Islam.

Yes I agrew with you there is a huge amount of stinking hypocrisy within the Left and some feminist circles about the failure to criticise these customs and practises.

Colm

Jonz

Incidentally in your last comment here did you mean to precede the word 'off' with something ?

alison

Well see my comment at 1:44 for what I think might be his reasoning - guilt by association. Clarified perhaps by your last comment...Im glad you agree about this. I think maybe your initial argument about the burqa which i wont ressurect in full here which agreed we need full debate might have been missed with the burqa debate that followed which got all convoluted.

Colm

Alison

Burqas are quite convoluted garments anyway, it's no surprise that debate around them gets equally jumbled up.

I don't base any of my views around the idea of not wanting to be seen as being 'Islamophoblic' or offending cultural sensibilities. If I think something is wrong I will say so regardless of which culture it comes from but equally if I think a prohibition is unnecessary (as in the case of wearing the Burqa) I will say that also, it doesn't mean I am cringing to Islam .

aileen

Mr Smith

"Just what kind of devil are you, anyway?" Care to elaborate on what sort of Devil you consider me to be?

Cunningham

Aileen

He's a religious nut with satanic obsessions...

"Iran's demonic practices,"
"what kind of devil are you,"
"What the hell? anyway?! !

alison

Hes not wrong about Iran. Why would you suggest otherwise?

Colm

What are the last 3 comments here all about ?

aileen

Colm mine was about MR Smith's earlier attack.

Cunningham

Aileen,

>>Hes not wrong about Iran. Why would you suggest otherwise?<<

Was that for me?

I didn't suggest he was right or wrong about Iran. I was talking about his language.

aileen

Cunningham

OT I am still waiting for you to back up your claim about what I am supposed to be on record as saying.

Cunningham

Aileen,
As I said, it was around Feb. of this year, so I'll have to trawl thru some weeks/months of threads. So it'll have to wait till the weekend if u want it.

Now my Q of 10:38?

Colm

Cunningham

You are getting Aileen confused with Alison.
