Very hard hitting, David. It probably sums up the entire Middle East conflict up in a nutshell.

Good one! It's clear - I don't think even that damnable O'Dwyer can pick this one apart. Or can he??????
Posted by: Monica-Philadelphia | July 23, 2006 at 01:05 AM
Easy enough Monica - the terrorist is shooting at the Israeli soldier, the Israeli soldier is shooting at the baby in the pram.
I know and accept the point the cartoonist is making, but it's backfiring a bit.

No Mad. It shows how terrorists hide behind babies.
It shows how WE position ourselves in front of babies - to protect them.
The two cartoon soldiers are not necessarily firing at each other. They are just demonstrating a world of difference in our philosophy.
See?

I think it's an excellent illustration.
Quite how Monica thinks it justifies attacking a defenceless country like Iraq, which is what I've commented on and not Israel, I'm not sure. Iraq was not attacking any US babies.

The two cartoon soldiers are not necessarily firing at each other.
The Pram in front of the Terrorist is not necessarily occupied ....

EWI,
I deleted your post - the image was far too graphic. It might strike you as clever, it struck me as sick.
Posted by: David Vance | July 23, 2006 at 02:21 PM
But David you did post a link the other day to the gruesome mutilated bodies of 2 American soldiers. Wasn't that image just as sick?
Posted by: Colm | July 23, 2006 at 03:22 PM
You're right Mad - the baby carriages are empty. There is also no ammunition in the weapons. It is a cartoon.
O'Dwyer is like that old lady neighbor of mine who discounts the chemical weapons found in Iraq. She insists they are not WMD because that sarin they found wouldn't kill millions of Americans. You agree with her O'Dwyer, don't you?

Monica,
O'Dwyer is like that old lady neighbor of mine who discounts the chemical weapons found in Iraq.
Because you misrepresent what she thinks also?

It may have been better if they were one on top of the oter as opposed to side by side.
Posted by: aileen | July 23, 2006 at 09:04 PM
I agree Aileen.

Good boy! :o)
Posted by: aileen | July 23, 2006 at 09:16 PM
MR,
was there anything said about that buissness the other night ?
Posted by: Martin | July 23, 2006 at 09:55 PM
It's OK Martin - Colm took the blame!
Posted by: Madradin Ruad | July 23, 2006 at 10:11 PM
Whew, we owe Colm big !
Posted by: Martin | July 23, 2006 at 10:17 PM
Colm,
The difference was I put on a VERY public warning that the images were gruesome. EMC did not - in fact the way he put the comment disguised the shocking image. This is one of those where the Editor DOES have the final say. Trust me - I have no issues with people linking to gruesome images if they wish - but there is a WAY in doing so that provides readers with a little safety. That's all.

I wonder what you consider OK. I just can't find the thread at the moment. When I first read it I was busy and anot able to turn my mind tio a suitable response.
Revenge is a dish best eaten cold and boy can I do COLD! MR you shouldn't leave so many implements about. I girl could do a lot of damage with them if she has the imagination (and I have!). Martin I thought that one wee dose of the curse would have been enough!
BTW Is there any significance in the fact that the guy on the right has a black/shaded gun and the other guy hasn't?
Posted by: aileen | July 23, 2006 at 10:37 PM
What was the image about David ?
Posted by: Madradin Ruad | July 23, 2006 at 10:38 PM
David
Thanks David. I have no wish to link to the gruesome. I didn't follow yoiur link because of the warning and I'm glad that I wasn't led unsuspecting to another.
Posted by: aileen | July 23, 2006 at 10:40 PM
Mad,
A baby with the head blown off.
Posted by: David Vance | July 23, 2006 at 10:49 PM
but it wasnt muslims that beheaded the baby so it had to go.
Posted by: daytripper | July 24, 2006 at 12:31 AM
Day tripper didn't you read what David wrote!!! You many be happy to click on links to such things with no warning but I'm not and it would not make the sight more palatable if a muslim had done the deed!
