STRINGFELLOWS CLOSES!
This is a story I covered a while ago - the opening of the Stringfellows Nightclub in Dublin. I'm pleased to report that this sleazeball venue has now CLOSED! In simple terms, it wasn't doing the business and so it has shut the doors for the last time. So no more lap-dancing in Parnell Street! It was indeed a "glorified strip club" that the local protestors claimed and I'm really pleased to see that the people of Dublin have shown such good taste in not frequenting it. They set a standard for us all!
Good on you Dublin!!!

What will happen to all the girls who have been made unemployed by this ?

I really like the blonde holding on to his collar.

I agree with Armaghlite. What's going to happen to these poor women?
I hope all of those crowing about the closure of this entertainment facility will be willing to bring one or more of these now destitute girls into their homes.

I lived in Dublin and left in May to return home. These women would have been recieving in excess of €2000 per week after tips!
The current base payment on Welfare in Ireland is €134.60 - which I recieved while I was there.
That is quite a drop for these Women (and men - there was a gay night and a ladies only night)
I think we should have thoughts also about the future of these employees.

Why can't these "poor women" get decent jobs. Irish women used to be modest and have morals.
When my kids were small I had to go out to work to put bread on the table as my husband didn't work due to an accident. I married young and had children quickly after that. I worked hard as an office cleaner doing three jobs a day. Are these women afraid of an honest days work or is it just an example of the decadent world we live in. I would have died of shame before doing such a thing. I am 48 by the way and I am now PA to a Chief Executive of a successful company, after attaining O'level and A level qualifications and putting myself through secretarial school. My four children are all grown up now and take great pride in their mother and respect me for everything I have done for them. How could you look your children in the eye if you worked at one of these clubs?

I am sure the majority of Irish women are decent and hard working. Those who choose lap-dancing as a career have to take the risks of this sort of situation. I know sex sells but evidently the people in Dublin have some sense on this.

maybe its a sign of the times
its cheaper to get a young lady to strip for you these days, and easier to find. a couple of bacardi breezers and most of the Hollyoaks generation want to gyrate on tabletops anyway.
who would want to pay good money in door fees and dances for a no touch policy?

Isn't that a bit naive ? Looking at life through rose-tinted spectacles ?

It's good to see a community standing up for itself. Their protest was ignored by the media but it was very effective on the ground.

My best friend actually frequents this and even more iniquitous venues. He says you're about as likely to see an Irish lass stripping there as at a DUP Ard Fheis.

Anon,
Irish women used to be modest and have morals.
And then they turned into sanctimonious busybodies?
Cunningham,
My best friend actually frequents this and even more iniquitous venues.
Funny, that's what he says about you too! ;-)
