Had this bid succeeded, it is probable that the government would have been then required to recognise polygamous marriages conducted in countries where polygamy is legal.

David Vance

Exactly. It sets a precedent.

In the picture used by the BBC, these lovebirds look like Pauline & Barbara from "The League of Gentlemen".

Sure this isn't just a publicity stunt for a new series of the programme?

Daniel Bright

The UK is still holding out against the gay hordes. For how long?

Colm

No-one can resist the power of the gay hordes. Resistance in futile. Surrender now and they may be gentle with you. The longer you try to hold out, the more terrifying the terms of surrender will be ;)

Sean Fear

"In the picture used by the BBC, these lovebirds look like Pauline & Barbara from "The League of Gentlemen"."

Come to think of it, you're right. Do you think they've got a cruch on Anne Robinson?

Dobbo

So you hate:
1) gays
2) Arabs
3) the Irish

I'll be interested to see what group you turn your balanced and well-reasoned logic towards next, you disgusting, hateful bigot.

fatmammycat

I don't think David does 'hate gays' I think as a Christian he holds the view that marriage is the taking of sacred vows between a woman and a man. There is a difference.

The Phantom

"raving lesbians"?

Colm

It was "Roving Lesbians". A reference I presume to their transatlantic travels.

David Vance

Hi Dobbo,

Here's a group I hate. Those lazy slobs who can't even read my posts properly.

Fatmammycat,

Thanks for explaining to the hard of thinking! I don't "hate" Lesbians, or any other group. I do hate terrorists, however.

Phantom,

"Roving" was supposed to be a midly humourous reference to their travels, that's all.

Isn't life about choices? likes and dislikes? attractions and revulsions?

Surely it is what makes life such a rich tapestry, or does everyone have to follow the bigoted Party line?

I see you are interested in DV's logic and reasoning - why? just so that you can show how 'nice' a person you are, and to give you a reason to vent your spleen and express your 'disgust' at someone who thinks differently from you?

We need little logic to see that it is yourself that is the hateful bigot...Why else read a blog that you find so disgusting...

The Phantom

I don't have a problem with DV's basic position.

A recognition of "gay marriage" is a fundamental reorganization of how human society has always worked. The rest of society deserves a say in this.

It is interesting that in the US and now the UK a sneaky legalistic approach has been followed, rather than trying the route of legislation.

There's no "human right" to same-sex marriage, nor is there one for legally recognized polygamy or polyandry or "poly" relationships ( multiple husbands and wives--swear to God, I have seen this discussed recently in all serisousness)

It is not bigotry to want marriage to be--well, marriage!

read what he says.

Look, I have nothing against these ladies but.. [they do suffer from a ] ..mental aberration.

hardly the words of a friend.

daytripper

balls sorry for italics explosion.

Colm

daytripper

A bit cheeky of you there. You cut and pasted 2 parts of the comment to make it look as if David is saying something that strictly speaking he didn't say.

Andrew

It's a typically homophobic statement to equate homosexuality with a mental abberation. Shame on all of you.

fatmammycat

I don't ever see how I can be accused of being a homophobe seeing as a large percentage of my male friends are gay. Gay men, who I might add, snigger every tme they hear of gay marriages. 'Why' French Gay once said, 'do I want to get married? For ze sake all ze children I might 'ave?'

The Phantom

Why the italics explosion? I do believe that typepad is the worst.

ernest young

Andrew,

So just what is it? - are you trying to say that it is quite normal to be attracted sexually to someone of the same sex!

Colm

here's my effort to get rid of them , italics that is not lesbians ;)

ernest young

ernest young

If you don't put a closing tag after your italics, it will carry over to the next comment..

daytripper

nobody is calling you a homophobe cat. i was merely pointing out that i think your conclusion on david is wrong.

colm, he calls homosexuality a mental abberation. then tries to cover his own back. nothing cheeky about it. i merely unmask his own words.

Colm

daytripper

He didn't actually call homosexuality a mental abberation. He used the phrase in the context of what he saw as the left's wider agenda, but didn't specifically attach that phrase to the case in question.
