Well now. There's a turn up for the books. Former senior Sinn Fein member Denis Donaldson has been found shot dead in the Irish Republic. Donaldson is believed to have been living in County Donegal since December when he admitted he had been a paid British agent for 20 years. He had headed Sinn Fein's administration office at Stormont before his October 2002 arrest over an alleged spy ring led to its collapse. His body was found in Glenties in County Donegal at about 1700 BST.
Now, let's see if we can predict who may have murdered this man.
1. It was suicide, obviously
2. It was the British securocrats, determined to cause problems for Sinn Fein.
3. It was dissidents in the Republican movement, that have NOTHING whatsoever to do with the IRA.
4. It was the tooth fairy, urged on by unionist rejectionists.
Let's be clear on ONE thing - the IRA, an organisation of peaceful benevolence and universal kindness, incapable of the very thought of criminality, could NOT have been involved, in any way, in this murder. And even if they were, it was not authorised by the IRA leadership. Got it?
Now, will Gerry Adams attend the funeral? Mmmmm..
Food for thought - having heard Adams and McGuinness issue denials - neither have claimed that it couldn't have been the IRA as they don't have any guns any more ....

>>If the British secret service wanted him out of the way, it would have done it a long time ago and not in such an obvious way.<<
Paul,
So was this then an obvious way for the British forces to kill someone?
And if you suggest that some "alleged" highranking informer in the IRA will benefit, then that at least leaves open the possibility of the killing being organised by his handlers to protect him.

There will be some sorting out of alibis going on at the moment ;)

He was found hiding out in donegal several weeks ago. What took the IRA so long? Did they forget where they put their "decommisioned" weapons?

I reckon it was Dick Cheney!

Gerry Adams says he rang the Donaldson family to warn and commiserate with them before it broke on the media.
I wonder who told him?
Was his phone call before or after the murder?

You can all keep putting your fingers in your ears and repeating whatever mantra you want to yourselves, boys and girls, but it's just another dead body in Northern Ireland and a week from now no-body will give a shit. And there are big changes coming down the line for Northern Ireland real soon. In the meantime, expect more dead bodies and more bullshit speculation.

Carlsberg don't kill informers but if they did ..................

Everyone keeps asking what the provisional movement has to gain... That's the sort of defence I used to employ at school if I was caught doing somethng stupid - 'why would I do something so stupid??'
What they have to gain is simple - the grassroots and those who know where the bodies are buried get a non-too-subtle reminder what happens to those who cross the movement.
Without meaning any disrespect to the deceased, this will also act as a morale booster for many within the movement who have had to suffer what they see as a series of humiliations.

Good points urquhart - Gerry learned the lesson about being blatent with "They haven't gone away, you know ".
Another possibility here is that it was a cuckolded husband - plenty of hunts that Dennis was keeping prisoner's beds warm and until recently he was fire-proof.

Those with the most to gain are the Provos. As usual, the MSM call it wrong. Lindy McDowell is a bright exception to this - she agrees that is OBVIOUS whodunnit. Mr P O'Neil.
