Let me start by saying that I sincerely hope that kidnapped British retired Professor Norman Kember who was snatched alongside two Canadians and an American in Baghdad on Saturday is returned safe and sound, along with his colleagues. However, what on EARTH was this "avowed anti-Iraq war" peace activist thinking wandering around such a dangerous area of Baghdad? I mean the media are very quick to point out that the Professor had gained his doctorate as a peace monger by attending all the big anti-Iraq war demonstrations in London as if THAT means anything to the Saddamite cut-throats that infest parts of Baghdad!! Don't they understand that the Jihadi will slit any western throat they can get their filthy hands on? I have to be honest and make it clear that in my opinion Professor Kember is a useful fool - a man who vociferously protested as UK troops liberated 25 million Iraqis from the Saddamite scum who now, ironically, hold him as a prisoner. He may want to "build bridges" and "talk peace" - but downtown Baghdad ain't the place for septuagenarian peaceniks!
There was a van that was carrying a whole lot of British citizens who were killed by the Jihadi on the same day. These British citizens were all Asians (or from the Middle East). When are people going to realize that these terrorists don't give a damn who or what you are...they believe in totally equality when it comes to killing.

Professor Norman Kember: It's wrong to kill gay people on sight, now let me tell you why...
Islamic Terrorist: ALLAH AKBAR!
*bang* *bang*
ALLAH AKBAR
____
I do hope they make it out alive, it wouldn't be the smartest thing to kill these people, from the terrorist prespective.
Posted by: Poosh | November 29, 2005 at 01:34 PM
Poosh
The logic of your last statement implies you don't wish the terrorists strategy to be damaged.
Posted by: Colm | November 29, 2005 at 01:42 PM
Just saying if they've been captured by smart terrorists/terrorist grunts under the control of a smart leader they stand a better chance of coming out alive.
God save these people though.
Posted by: Poosh | November 29, 2005 at 03:52 PM
My Two Cents... I think its hystericle I can just see them as the planed this trip "were going to show the Iraqies that all westerners aren't evil conservitives" Ha Ha they just found out the terrorists don't care. Left or Right your still an Infidel LOL
Posted by: The Troll | November 29, 2005 at 03:59 PM
Yeah - I hope they make it out alive. The hostages that is.
It does underline an important point and that is no matter how much one bleats about understanding the terrorists perspective - they'll kill ya anyway.
The only sides to this are: Islamist jihadist (and even that wouldn't guarantee one's safety from them) or NOT.
We have to kill them all. All of them until not one is left.
Posted by: Monica-Philadelphia | November 29, 2005 at 04:50 PM
Monica, Girl, I like the cut of your jib. Are ya sure you aren't from Texas?
Yea, I hope the poor sods keeps their heads about them. It reminds me of the old War of the Worlds movie where the preacher is walking toward the spaceship holding up a Bible in peace. Right before he's vaporized.
Gotta kill'em, kill'em all. Dirty work, but we didn't start it.
Posted by: ch in texas | November 29, 2005 at 07:00 PM
Texas is too soft for our Monica. I bet she was born in the Alaskan wilds!
They don't call her Grizzly Mama for nuthin'
GGGrrrr
Posted by: Colm | November 29, 2005 at 07:03 PM
Well thank you ch. I am very happy that you visit here often. In fact I think you should start your own blog.
I wasn't raised in TX - I WAS raised in Denver, CO. BEFORE it became a big, nasty city. We spent lots of time in the mountains when I was a kid. Can't stand the mountains now unless I have a warm dry bed and running hot and cold water and a coffee pot. Oddly enough though I tend to lapse into a Texas drawl when I'm extremely pissed.
Killing the bastard terrorists is a nasty job and you are right CH - we didn't start this but we WILL end it. No matter that the Noam Chomskys (and his adherents) of the world insist that it's our fault and we deserve it. An innocent man having his head sawed off has nothing to do with deserve. Nothing at all. The people doing the sawing (and apparently there are thousands and thousands of the little bastards) will be killed. There is no other option.

Monica, I'm flattered you think I could blog something interesting. My wife already claims to be a blog widow.
I came to ATW and Slugger originally to try to get a handle on European thinking vis-a-vis the war, and I'm afraid I'm no closer. They think we're lunatics, and we think they're wussies. (We're right, of course, we're Americans!)
Posted by: ch in texas | November 30, 2005 at 02:41 AM
CH naw The griz crawled out of the Rocky's and into my car, dragged her all the way to Philly, Ya can't tame them thar bear but they do make life interesting.
P.S. do what we do get her her own computer and blog in tandem. Ain't nuthin better than a good ole american tag team.
As for the Europeans yeah for the most part they just don't seem to have the same perspective do they. DV of course is a good exception from the rule and if you stick an stay long enough you'll find a few others... This lot on this blog are a good group to talk to.
Posted by: The Troll | November 30, 2005 at 03:07 AM
I've been TRYING to tell them that most Americans hold close to the same views I hold. They don't believe it. They do think I'm a lunatic. LOL! And OMG - they can't deal with the thought of owning a gun, CH - much less owning several guns! It gives me a chuckle. Colm is CONSTANTLY needling me - but I can't help but like him. This is a great blog - very interesting. Many intelligent people contributing.
No matter. We will win this war against these damnable islamist bastards. It's us or them....and it sure aint going to be US!
It's too bad that it went so far. I knew very little about islamist bastard terrorists until after 9/11. Oh sure - heard about a bombing here or there somewhere in the world. (although the USS Cole DID piss me off - so did Mogadishu.) I really had no idea the scope of it. I don't think many of us understood.
Posted by: Monica-Philadelphia | November 30, 2005 at 04:05 AM
Just WHAT were these peaceniks doing in Iraq anyway? They can't STILL be protesting a war just when we're winning and millions of Iraqis are free?
I liked the contrast that our Senator Joe Lieberman (Democrat-Connecticut) had on his return from Iraq: 27 million Iraqis versus 10,000 terrorists.
Maybe the peaceniks were trying to convince the 10,000 terrorist to stop their war against the people of Iraq (oh yeah... as if).

It looks like us Americans like to make mischief while the sheep sleep. I really don't get them, and a lot of blue state Americans, either. Some Euro asked me when we were talking about France going up in flames "well what would happen in Texas." I had to pick myself up off the floor! Here after a couple cars got firebombed, someone would get their MF head blown off. That'd be the end of that. Gun control here means holding your piece steady to get a clean kill.
I think the Aussie's understand us a little better. I read somewhere that Australia is the only country to have stood by us in 4 wars, WW I, WW II, Korea, and Nam. In all of them we were somewhere trying to pull someone else's ass outa the fire.
Oh and Monica, you do have the balls of a brass monkey, but then so did Maggie Thatcher!
Posted by: ch in texas | November 30, 2005 at 04:39 AM
ch in Texas,
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your contributions on here and just so you can sleep easy in bed - this "European" wants to kill all terrorists! Pure and simple. I also wish to destroy all terror supporting regimes. I may not be from Texas, but not all Euros are peacemongering deluded fools.

"in 4 wars, WW I, WW II, Korea, and Nam.......we (USA) were somewhere trying to pull someone else's ass outa the fire."
enlighten us.

David Vance, My humble apoligies. Of course it goes without saying that I was not referring to you or your countrymen and women who stand shoulder to shoulder with all freedom loving people throughout the world. I made the same mistake as some Euro's who refer to "Americans" as if a contintent of 290 million are monolithic in thinking or anything else.
Rich, Going into americian foriegn involvement in the 20th century would be quite a post. I know many people see Americans as either too stupid to tie their shoelaces, or so smart as to run worldwide cabals. Truth is, we go out to help our friends in need, and have only asked for little plots of land to bury our dead in return.

From AOL news:
Christian Peacemaker Teams said it was saddened by the videotape of their workers, who the statement said were working against the occupation of Iraq.
"We are angry because what has happened to our teammates is the result of the actions of the U.S. and U.K. government due to the illegal attack on Iraq and the continuing occupation and oppression of its people," the group said.

Ch in Texas,
how far are you from the front line. The greatest shame is that the sameboys and girls keep getting sent back again and again.
I think it's time for national service, even for all those cowards hiding out in Harvard and the like.
Posted by: Garfield | November 30, 2005 at 03:59 PM
"The greatest shame is that the sameboys and girls keep getting sent back again and again."
There is no shame in it, Garfield.
There's a big difference between you and me right there. Our military is all volunteer. Many military personnel have voluntary re-upped despite their time in Iraq. THEY don't think it's a mistake. You would love for a draft to be instated wouldn't you? It would fit right in with your anti-war stance so well and would give you the handle to whip up your anti-war sentiment with the population.
I am a proud veteran. Even if I wasn't a veteran - I am a tax paying citizen supporting a government that has been charged with representing me on the world stage. You trotting this tired theme of 'you're not on the front lines' doesn't change that for one minute.
No guts - no glory.
Posted by: Monica-Philadelphia | November 30, 2005 at 04:38 PM
Monica,
you may think it's alright to send soldiers for six month tours and leave them there for two years.
However, making the same people carry the fighting burden is wrong. A lot of soldiers are basically shells of human beings after enduring that length of time on the front line and will end up as social detritus with huge mental problems and a paultry pension to live off.
It's nothing to do with anti-war, it's to do with doing what's right.
Sacrificing the mental and physical health of a tiny group of people, who for the most part come from the poorest and most disadvantaged communities, is wrong.
Fallen heroes is right. So what if you are a veteran, you aren't there now. How many two-year tours did you do on the frontline?
Posted by: Garfield | November 30, 2005 at 06:04 PM
Garfield, You are using the tired chickenhawk argument, that being that unless you are one the front line of the war, you have no business commenting on it.
1) I'm 47 and a pharmacist. I'm trained in emergency triage in case of attack on the homeland. By the way, the front lines in this war have been the middle of our cities and the skies over Penn.
2) The enemy knows they can't beat us on the battlefield, but they can beat us in the realm of public opinion back home. Here is where I come in again, on this blog for instance.
3) I support our troops in the hot zone with letters and packages. Why not look up Anysoldier.com and write one and see what he or she has to say. Don't bother with anti-war stuff, as they tell me they make great fires, and besides, you don't want battle hardened US Marines pissed at you. No greater friends, no worse enemy.
Thanks Mon.. Grrrr ;)

I've been TRYING to tell them that most Americans hold close to the same views I hold. They don't believe it.
And they shouldn't believe it, Monica. What proportion of the votes did Kerry get again?
Posted by: Neal | November 30, 2005 at 09:13 PM
Oh here's Neal again. Kerry lost. God bless ya - ya nasty little leftist.
I would echo CH's advice to you Garfield. You seem to be very concerned about our men and women in the field. A care package is a great idea. A note of appreciation and support.
Posted by: Monica-Philadelphia | December 01, 2005 at 05:31 AM
Isn't it amazing that these Chicken Doves just keep spewing that Chicken Hawk crap?
They feign their concern for the fairness of an all volunteer force and somehow make the absurd suggestion that a forced service military would be a good idea.
Well, we know that their real motivation is to undermine our military and political power in the middle of a war to save western civilization, of which they are a part. The reason they are not honest about their underlying motivations is clear: it's a LOSING proposition in a time of war.
These same folks, who crow "we support the troops, but not the war" supported candidates for government office who routinely vote against the weapons and military infrastructure that keep our troops safer and limit civilian casualties.
The majority of Chicken Doves have also failed to serve their country in any way. Their selfishness is as complete as their ideology is empty.
