B*LLOCKS TO BLAIR!
In the increasingly NuLabour controlled police state that the UK is morphing into - it is now deemed an offense to wear a t-shirt that says, well..you can read, can't you? It seems that a girl was arrested for wearing her “Bollocks to Blair” T-shirt at the Midlands Game Fair last weekend. Charlotte Denis, 20, a gamekeeper from Gloucestershire, was stopped by police as she left the Countryside Alliance stand because of the “offensive” slogan.
How DARE she poke fun at President Blair! I mean free speech has it's place - but if you are going to attack our wise and glorious leader, well.....pay the price. How I love liberals when they show their totalitarian instincts.
All true... but it was a vulgar and juvenile t-shirt - and the fact that someone feels they can wear such a garment shows how much our culture is coarsening.
Of course it's none of the police's business - *she* should have known not to wear the T.

Agreed exactly, which is I think the point David missed.
Recently I saw a family in the street , mum dad and 2 kids and one of the children who could have been no more than 9 was wearing a T shirt which simply said "Fu**ing C**t" but without the asterix's and I though what sort of parents are happy to allow a child to wear a t shirt like that.
I would have been perfectly happy to see the police arresting those 2 idiots who do not deserve to be parents.

Hi Colm.
Yes - and that FCUK thing... Not only juvenile but also not *funny*. At all. Good to see French Connection, which still clings to the FCUK branding, is now doing very badly.

What I find galling is that people can wear T Shirts and badges glorifying Terrorism....

Well any sloganeering on t-shirts is a bore... And the psychology behind it is pretty weird.
Look at me! I care so much I bought the t-shirt!
Who cares!
If you really *do* care about something... write to the Telegraph!
That's my answer to everything today, of course.

MR
Well it just so happens that the govt. are gojng to introduce laws about that...
Posted by: Colm | September 28, 2005 at 12:45 PM
...more nanny state laws?:)

Jo - you don't strike me as the kind of young woman who'd engage in vulgar or provocative t-shirt wearing.
I see you in a jersey twin-set - very much like myself...

Colm - what chance they would be enforced ?
It would upset Sinn Féin and reduce their income from their online shop - heavens to Betsy, the loss of income might even drive them to crime ! ;)

That sort of thing is too common for me, the sort of thing one sees at Millisle in the summer months.. ;)
Posted by: Jo | September 28, 2005 at 12:54 PM
Millisle?
Standard wear is Farah slacks and a grey polyester v-neck jumper. (Worn over a "Save Larne from Sodomy" t-shirt)
Posted by: DST | September 28, 2005 at 01:04 PM
Think I might prefer a "Save Sodomy from Larne" t-shirt myself!

Colm:
You are getting a very bad impression of a town you have probably have never been to. Lucky you, I say ;)

After this blog-theme... people will *hear* "Larne" - but they'll *think* "sodomy". (And "Stranraer" too, of course).
Serves Larne right!

I am sure Larne is probably one of the most beautiful picturesque civilised and genteel places in Northern Ireland!

Colm - It's on a par with Dundalk. Yes, it's that bad! After all it's where The RC Church exiled Pat Buckley :)

At least Dundalk is now by-passable...
And I went to a fun wedding there once. Or maybe that was Drogheda...

DV, perhaps the 82 year old heckler being ejected from the Labour Party conference would give you a stronger argument on the topic of freedom of speech (lack of).

DST/Colm/Peter,
I do accept your points - it was a vulgar display and we could with much less coarseness in this land.
Peter,
Most definetely. I've been away all day and am too tired to post on it tonight.
