JUDAS

Isn't it despicable that UK PM Tony Blair welcomes terror godfathers Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness to London at the very same time as he is declaring that he will not "yield an inch" to terrorists? With their usual complete lack of vision, the media speculates as to why Tony won't shake hands with Adams! I have a theory - I call it the Judas factor. Blair has sold the soul of his Government to these guys and the terror cabal they front. It's just too awkward to be seen in PUBLIC shaking hands at this time - though I am sure that in private it''s satisfied grins all round.

David - I suspect it would be more likely that Blair has realised he has painted himself in a corner here, as in Iraq, by having stuck so doggedly with his policy that to change course would be a U turn of such proportions as to finish his hopes of going down in history as the saviour of Ireland.... The First Brit to sort the place out etc. Just as Bertie is clinging desperately to his position - to change course would be disastrous.

I'm sure Madradin is correct - Blair can't face the thought of not being the sorter out of the "Irish Question", in the same way that he still hasn't realised that he wont be life president of the EU.

If Michael Collins can negotiate with the british government and sign an agreement, pray tell why cannot Gerry Adams and company ?

I'll tell you why - a democratic government should NEVER negotiate anything with terrorists other than their surrender!

David, would you rather push them onto the periphery and give further credence to their cause? Don't be so unreasonable.

The more you do this, the more martyrs you create. I believe negotiations actually weaken the cause by bringing about interim peace and causing people to think about real issues.
